A cross-generational conversation

Welcome to the website of the YECREA-ECREA-COST supported one-day workshop that will bring together three generations of audience researchers at Brussels, on 11th April 2012. We outline our aims and ambitions here  and we have provided participant profiles, project descriptions and mentor profiles on this site as well. Please browse through the tabs on the top of this page. If you have any questions or would like to stay informed about what happens at the workshop please get in touch with the organiser Ranjana Das at ranjanasemail (at) gmail.com. We sincerely thank the financial support provided by COST Action IS0906, the mentorship offered by Nico Carpentier, Kim Schroder and Geoffroy Patriarche and the guidance, encouragement and support of the YECREA Board.

Those involved…

COSTCOST is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in Science and Technology, allowing the coordination of nationally-funded research at the European level. The Action “Transforming Audiences, Transforming Societies” (2010-2014) is coordinating research efforts into the key transformations of European audiences within a changing media and communication environment, identifying their complex interrelationships with the social, cultural and political areas of European societies. A range of interconnected but distinct topics concerning audiences are being developed by four Working Groups: (1) New media genres, media literacy and trust in the media; (2) Audience interactivity and participation; (3) The role of media and ICT use for evolving social relationships; and (4) Audience transformations and social integration.

YECREA –  YECREA is the Young Scholars Network of the European Communication Research and Education Association (YECREA) and it aims to give a voice and provide a network within ECREA specifically for the young generation of European Media and Communication scholars. YECREA provides a forum for the segment within ECREA that involves (but is not limited to) doctoral students and post doctoral researchers to inform, assist, share ideas, get peer support and peer-review. A special emphasis is put on PhD-programme support. YECREA aims to provide a bridge between the young generation and the advanced members of ECREA, to stimulate both communication and collaboration between the two.

The Audience and Reception Studies Section of ECREA – The section intends to organise a strong network for European research and education in the field of audience and reception studies. The section welcomes various approaches (theoretical/critical works, methodological discussions or empirical studies) and methods (quantitative or qualitative research, or both) and encourages works that cross disciplines and traditional boundaries (between “old media” and “new media”; between mass communication, group communication and interpersonal communication; between content/production and audience/reception).
